The next question could be: Windows Vista or Windows XP Pro?? I think I would prefer XP, but what do you say about that matter?

Hi Thorvald,
take XP Pro, never change a running system (or change to Vista, if there is Service Pack 2 or 3 available) Wink

I would also prefer XP pro, because I know, it's running well and can do all things I need. Vista? perhaps after SP1 or SP2. If there are problems with Vista, you can find the solutions in Google in 2008 Rolling Eyes

I'm not a great expert for those systems, I'm only conservative, and often I act on instinct. Cool

So I think Windows XP Pro it is.... Also for the reason to have the same system on both my stationary computer and the laptop.

But I would still like your comments on the graphic cards in the two laptops, I am looking at:

- LG Z1-A3E3V: 12,1" 1280 x 800 (WXGA), ATI Mobility Radeon X1350 with up to 384 MB Hypermemory.

- LG M1-KBSPV3: 15" 1400x1050 (SXGA+), NVidia GeForce Go 7400.

Another question - since it seems like you don't want to answer the questions about the graphic cards.... Wink But LG says that the mentioned ATI in Z1 has enough power to run OpenGL without problems, so I think also the Nvidia can.

But another question could be: How to install Dietrichs without floppy disc? Is it possible to copy the contents of the floppy disc to a USB Memory stick, and use that in stead of the floppy drive??

I'm sorry, but I know too little about graphic cards, so my answer could not help you.

Install: During installation there are 3 possibilities to put in your client data:
- floppy disc
- code number xxxx yyyy zzzz (you normally get it on the letter with the CD)
- read from hard disk (from earlier installation)

I hadn't have one for years, mainly there is a file named "kunde.dat". This file contains encoded informations, which parts of the program you have purchased, and your name and address that is printed on every plan.

DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE THE FILE!!

The Kunde.dat is very important, you need it definitly Exclamation

When I got a new version, I´ll take the way, which Planer wrote some posts above Wink

All Dietrich's client data are on the CD. With the 12 digit code number the installation routine will decrypt your "kunde.dat".
If you install an old version on another PC, you can copy the kunde.dat into any folder, and tell the installation routine where to find it.

If there is a new version, you should use new kunde.dat, because some new functions will not work with old client data.

So - the floppy disc is not really necessary, since the same information is on the CD, and can be "opened" during installation, using only the CD?? Or did I misunderstand something here?

Why not just copy the contents of the floppy to a USB Flash ram with the desktop computer and during installation tell the installation to look in the USB flash ram and not in the not-existing floppy at the new laptop???

Another thing - wich I might be able to find somewhere else here in the forum - is the way to "copy" the installation / settings (like user defined material properties, wall properties, roof properties, etc.) from the desktop computer to the laptop. Remember that on this new laptop, there have never before been installed Dietrichs.

You can only install the Software alone with CD, if you have your own personal code number for this CD. I do hardly believe, that you got a floppy disk and a code.

Copy your kunde.dat to the new hard disk, then install from CD and select "Path".

There are a lot of files to copy. You find them in windat and winvor.
There are at least two files, that contain program paths. You should only copy them if the new installation has exactly the same pathnames as the old one.
These files are pp.vor and dhpdat.ini
