Filter Interior Walls

Post Posted: 28.06.2009 22:27

In wall properties, I have walls designated as interior walls. I would like to filter walls designated as interior using the filter I do not see this as an option. Can anyone advise?

Hi Kayaker,

what are you going to do with the walls after filtering them?

Best regards,

Jens

Hi Kayaker,

if this is a general problem of yours, you could manage this in the future by creating two separate storeys for interior walls and external walls, e.g. GF0 and GF1. For now we do not handle external walls and internal walls separately...

Best regards,

Jens

Hi Jens,

I can use your approach using separate stories. I am wondering are there any other users that have the desire to hide interior walls. If so, we might benefit by having this as an option, filtering designated interior walls as well as exterior walls through the filter command.

Kind Regards,

Kayaker

First: Where you want to hide walls? And for what reasons and purposes do you want to hide walls?

I have not untill now had the desire to hide walls - except perhaps in D-Cam / OpenGL, where you not allways want to show everything. But here you have several options to select things.

I think both in groundplan display style and in D-Cam activate filter it could be easy to add wall types, as well as ceilings. Of course you have the option in building MOS, but here you need to know the numbers of walls / ceilings.

Hi Thorvald,

It is nice to have hidden interior walls when doing a walk through in D-Cam and view the timber frame, I use the wall module to place beams, and columns with the walls active it makes this a bit more difficult. I currently have my interior walls in a user defined MOS and then activate them and hide selected it works well. As I mentioned earlier it would be nice to activate them through the filter as well. Thanks for your suggestions!

No good idea! Internal walls from GF0 will not be able to connect to external walls from GF1. Functionality would be lost.

And yes, it would be a very nice feature to have a int/ext wall filter!

Hi Der_Planer,

Good case in point. Since I place my beams and posts within the wall, I was hesitant about moving my interior walls to another level and realized when I need to view my posts or beams in wall design they would no longer be available.

Der_Planer have a good point. And now I also understand you Kayaker - yes, in D-Cam / OpenGL it can be confusing to view all timberframe at the same time. So yes it could be convenient to have a inside / exterior walls filter.

One more case, I need this filter: When I create the 4 front-/back-/gable view plans with hidden lines, I often switch off all interior walls. The plans are calculated much faster, and the drawings have fewer lines. The only missing thing: ext/int wall filter, that could save many single clicks!

This filter could be integrated into "set MOS" or in the normal Dicam filter function. One of them would work well.

Excellent point, Der_planer. That is a work, where it could be useful. I use to activate and hide all items behind the facade, but if it is a big project this can be too much for the computer to handle.
