3D section cut?

Poster Posté le: 25.09.2008 07:06

Hi.

How to make a 3D section cut?? - if you understand what I mean. A angled cut, that you can show in OpenGL???

I do not understand what you mean. Can you show us a picture?
We can do every cut and we can show it in OpenGL and we even cad do it in OpenGL.

Hi Thorvald,

do you mean a section like this?
Go to the wall construction, and press the OpenGL button. You will see a section as thick as the wall in OpenGL.
If you need the section at an other place, you can make a temporary wall in any direction and with any thickness (f.e. half the building), and enjoy the result.
The temp. wall should be under the building, with texture "NOTEX", then it doesn't intersect with other walls and it is unvisible in OpenGL.

With wall construction 1-7-1 you can define, which elements are visible in this section.

next step:

If you need the OpenGL section in a drawing, you can make an orthogonal printscreen, and use it as background picture. You should cut the picture exactly at the first and the last rafter pixel, then it is quite easy to calculate the correct scale.

It seems so that I did not understand correctly the word section cut. Embarassé

Hi - well no, this is not what I am talking about. It is more like this picture, I am thinking about. But in my case the example is: I have a floor element t.ex. I would like to be able to make a cut section, that is not either vertical or horizontal, but in an angled plane through the floor element. So in this way the single layers becomes visible - and is possible to show in OpenGL. Do you understand what I mean?

Somewhere here in the forum is an example for your request, I think Planer or motocarpenter did explain it, admittedly in german Rouler des yeux

It was not my idea, but I remember how to get it.

You can show vertical or horizontal sections with wall or ceiling construction.
It is also possible to show angeled views, but you cannot exactly define the cutting slice.

- view the model in the normal OpenGL (not in construction mode)
- walk into the middle of the building
- rightclick to change the options to "parallel view"
- when you turn around now, you will see the section that you need
- it will take some experience to find out the correct view place.

Hmm. Ok, I see what you mean, but it is not exactly how I like it. See attached picture. This I have made by copying the floor element to a new position. Then I made a big piece of wood, rotated it in D-Cam and used intersecting volumes to receive the cut. This kind of section cut is what I am really talking about. A function that can do this in wall design, in ceiling design, roof design and in D-cam, would be quite nice. This picture is going to be used to describe the built-up of the floor.

I think, you already found the best way to make this kind of pictures.

Yeah, after a bit work. But it is a point for wishlist to have a function that can make this kind of view. Perhaps as simple section cuts (but these you cannot show in OpenGL). Or as viewplane function that we have been talking about before - similar to a function in Tekla.
