Smallest Cut Dimension

Post Posted: 11.03.2008 11:39

Hi

I'm working in free design and have two timbers meeting - I want to produce a 0.5mm gap between them which means taking 0.25mm off each beam - the smallest allowable cut seems to be 0.301mm. Is there a setting that limits this smallest cut dimension and does it automatically round up / down to the nearest 0.3mm on other cuts?

I am trying to account for timber swelling (due to moisture) tolerances along a length in the design which is why the dimension is small. I have never noticed this before - does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers, Mike

Maybe, somtimes it's a problem with short measures in 3D.
In this case I would make 2 cuts: first, 100 mm longer, second, 100.25 mm shorter.

Thanks Planer - have just put the timbers in and specified the length I want

On another note I entered the length of 924.25mm (the measurement tool confirmed this) but the object info box has rounded to 924.2mm Question

Do you really need such an exact length?
There is no saw, cutting a wooden beam so exactly as you can design it in CAD.
You even can't measure it with a normal measuring tape. Rolling Eyes

No - don't need that kind of tolerance but it is just the fact that the Software is round up / down measurements - just wanted to know it it was an in built setting or something that could be modified - cheers

I think the process list is rather exact, but the program does not accept very small changes. You could not make a very short cut, and I could not push a rafter or a wall post by a fraction of a millimeter.
If you really need the precision, there is the way I described before (+100 / -100.25).

Precision sometimes needs a compromise in 3D construction, and in my opinion the Software does a good job. Smile
