DWG to DXF.

Post Posted: 20.11.2007 13:49

Hello.
An old fashioned topic, but still actual. I have one thing here: It is a bit irritating that text and measurements dissapeares, when dwg is converted to dxf.

Hi, Thorvald,
what do you mean? If you want to import dxf to Dietrichs of course you will get all info only lines without other information.
If you dont have AutoCad Software to convert files you can use dwg-dxf (dxf-dwg) converters.

Why "of course" text and measurements dissapears when converting dwg to dxf?? Is it because of the dxf format - that dxf format perhaps contains only lines?? For me it is irritating, because when inserting windows and doors - the information of the windows and doors (sizes, SH etc.) is on the architect drawing. It would be much easier and faster to insert windows and doors, if I don't have to switch between Dietrichs and architect drawing. If I in dietrischs assisting geometry instantly can see the information about that window. I think I am not the only one through history, who would like to be able to import dwg into Dietrichs. I just don't remember the reason why this is not implemented in Dietrichs.

I would like to hear more about dwg to dxf converters - are there any free Software, that can do that???

Converting dwg to dxf does not delete text. Maybe the text type and size are not the same.

Dietrich's can import lines and text in Plancad, only line types and colours seem to be a problem.

In all construction areas it's not possible to import text, but it's already on top of the wish list.

Hey, a9tech - that was a good hint... Very Happy Also to get a free cad Software, where you can draw and edit dwg drawings etc. Great. No more dwg viewer from AutoDesk (maybe)....

a9tech was a good hint. Another thing could be the possibility to convert dwg to PDF, without the autocad program. Is that possible??

I also want to ask: If I take the drawings from PlanCad and want to convert them to dwg - then the drawings must be saved in dxf and then converted to dwg. But what happens to text, measurements, colors and scale?? From earlier experience I found it difficult to make good dwg drawings of drawings from Dietrichs.

You can "print" dwg to pdf with every cad or viewer Software, which is able to open dwg.

I do not like extern dwg/dxf files with different scales. There are always problems with it. And as result, I also do not export different scaled plans to dxf/dwg. I finish my drawings with Plancad (why not?) and distribute them as plf or pdf. If someone needs dxf (only for measure purpose), I store an 1:1 dxf direct from the 3d-model. All other ways cause too much problems.

I have sometimes been asked to give my production drawings as dwg files, but I have said "no", because it doesn't work well. I dont think that production drawings in dwg are so important - but it could be a good thing when we are talking about plandrawings. Because not all are working with Dietrichs (unfortunately... ;-) )
