Can I cut profiled beams

Poster Posté le: 26.09.2007 19:05

Allo,

I'm trying to cut TJI's from the database. I can only cut them square.
I would like to cut them at an angle, such as a plumb cut (obolz) on a rafters. Question

Hey Exclamation

I answered my own question. I used 3-5-1 instead of 3-5-2 and it worked.

Confus Confus Confus

I was able to cut my TJI's in the valley, but I cannot them plumb. Even with using 3-5-1. I even tried 5-5-(5,6,7) parallel to a plane. Question Confus

You should be able to use all this functions with TJI too. There are no restrictions.
What is going on if you try to cut the TJI? Is there any message or do you just get a wrong result?

Hi Joachim
you know when you go through the steps, pick the piece, choose your plane with 2 lines or 3 points and then pick your point on the plane, then it asks you which end do you wish to cut. When it works, the dialogue box for the distance to the cutting plane opens up and all is good. When I try to make a plumb cut, it quits after selecting the end you wish to cut and the highlighted piece turns off and your prompted to select the next piece for cutting. If I try just a vertical cut (3-5-2), it just deselects the piece after choosing the end of the piece to cut.

Thanks for your time

Hans

Hi Hans,

I checked your problem with an example but I cannot reproduce it. In my case it worked fine.
Can you give us your position as attachement?

Hi Hans,

there are very strange things going on with your TJIs Choqué
How did you get them to their place where they are now?
I think they were not made in roof construction, because they are all grey there.
If you enterd them in Dicam Free Construction, why do most of them have no cuts? (empty list!)

When I try to devide them with 3-5-4, they are really devided as if I had chosen 3-5-3. I checked the beam's coordinate systems, but they seem to be ok.
I also checked, if dicam works with global coordinates, and it was correct.

I entered a new TJI, and rotated it like a rafter. This new beam has two cuts (at beginning and end). With my TJI all 3-5-x functions work well.

So how did you enter your TJIs, that they behave so strange? Rouler des yeux

I found out, that not all your beams are so strange. The strange ones have an other width as the normal ones (1 digit difference at 4th decimal place).
I think you enterd the normal beams on one side of the roof, and duplicated them by mirroring to the other side. By experience I know, that mirrored beams are not as exact as normal beams are, so you should be very careful with this function.

Delete all beams you have mirrored, and enter them once again as normal TJIs, then, I guess, the problem is solved.

I originally entered the first pair in wall design using the 5-3-7 command and inputing the correct lenght. I tried cutting a plumb cut at the peak in Wall but it wouldn't let me. So I cut them square after thinking that it might be easier to assemble on site anyway. Then in Dicam I changed their MOS. then copied them. Then I tried cutting vertically in Dicam. and now I'm here.

Idée But come to think of it, why didn't I insert them in Roof Design? Embarassé Rouler des yeux

Whatever you did, it was an unusual way. If you check the TJI's coordinate systems, you will see, that one roof side is ok, but on the other side the beams are upside down. I think I would renew them all in roof design.

btw: do you really know, your dovetail corners are ok? I don't think so. The angles should point to opposite direction.

No, I didn't know about the dovetails. I just did those ones quickly for the elevation drawings. I guess the shop guys are goig to have a good laugh at my expense. wacko
Thanks for your help. I'll redo those TJI's in Roof and let you know how it goes.

Danke

Hansi.

only for interest:

the mess started with your wall No.12
When you measure the inside bottom line, you see, that it is not exactly 270°.
I guess, this was the origin of your TJIs. If the wall had been exactly straight, perhaps you might not have had a problem.

Hi Planer,

are you never going to sleep? Working at 02.00 in the night and helping the guys in Amerika?
Respect!
