Graphic card req. for version 8.

Post Posted: 17.11.2008 16:49

Hi.

From time to time, I fall in love with a computer (but I don't buy them all...) Wink E.g. I buy if it's time for a new computer.

For the moment I am in love with LG R710-SAP77V. But the computers in this 710 series all have ATI Graphic card and in this computer it is ATI® MobilityTM Radeon® HD3650 (512MB VRAM, 1,983MB Hyper Memory) and Windows Vista Home Premium. Will it be so from version 8, that it doesn't matter so much if you use Nvidia or ATI grapfic cards?? - That one will get the same performance from cards on same level?

Hello Thorvald,

it is not a question of what program version you use. We do not have an influence on this problem. It is the combination of high level OpenGL applications with ATI graphic card drivers that causes the problem. This is why ATI has to solve the problem, not us. We do not see any progress here at the moment, so we still cannot recommend ATI graphic cards in combination with OpenGL workspace at the moment.

Best regards,

Jens

Ok, I see. That was sufficient answer. Then I must try to get that laptop with Nvidia grapfic card, in case I would buy it (some day - or another laptop).

Hi Roly,

if I understand you right you have problems with an ATI Graphic Card (?) You can try and download the latest "Catalyst Driver" from the ATI Homepage before you send back the Laptop. We found that the last generation of these drivers has worked quite well with some of the ATI Cards...

Best regards,

Nope, downloaded Catalysts 9.5 and installed. It reported OpenGL version 6.14.10.7415 Is this corect or should it be a later version?

Any help appreciated before I send the other one back (they won't let me return the opened one).

There was obviously something stopping the latest driver installing (Toshiba policy?) so I used "Mobility Modder" to get the latest OpenGL driver to install. No the Catalysts control centre doesn't work, but who cares because now OpenGL is great. Gone from 0.6FPS to 50FPS.

I'll check with a big model tomorrow, but it looks like it's fixed!
